Young Learners TESOL (Diploma)


🔹 Course Description
This qualification is for experienced or aspiring ESL educators looking to deepen their understanding of second language acquisition and enhance their teaching skills for young learners. The Diploma covers curriculum development, learner psychology, creative resource design, assessment, and advanced classroom language strategies for children. .

🔹 Program Pathways
Graduates may:
• Work as Lead ESL Teachers, Curriculum Developers, or Educational Consultants in young learner-focused institutions

🔹 Course Duration
40 weeks, including extended practicum and project-based learning
Total Nominal Hours: 250 hours
🔄 Fast-Track Option:
Students who have completed the Certificate IV in TESOL for Young Learners at Kings College may receive credit for up to 120 hours of practicum and overlapping foundational units, allowing them to complete the Diploma in as little as 30 weeks, with only 130 hours of additional practicum required.

🔹 Entry Requirements
• Completion of Year 12 or Certificate IV in TESOL
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• For international students: IELTS 5.5 (Academic) or equivalent
🔹 Mode of Delivery
• Face-to-face lectures, workshops, and project-based modules
• Practical experience through peer-teaching, fieldwork, and portfolio development
• Supervised practicum: 250 hours (or 130 hours for Certificate IV graduates)
• Mentorship by experienced ESL professionals

Diploma students receive Teaching English to Children – Volume 2, a continuation of the Kings College TESOL series authored by Dave Ko.
This advanced handbook focuses on curriculum development, classroom leadership, assessment strategies, and reflective teaching practices aligned with the practicum.
🔹 Certification
A nationally recognized Diploma in TESOL for Young Learners will be awarded to students who successfully complete all competencies at Kings College.
