Young Learners TESOL (Certificate IV)


🔹 Course Description
This qualification is designed for individuals seeking to work as English language teachers specializing in young learners (ages 4–12). The course provides essential theoretical knowledge and practical skills for teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) in early childhood and primary education contexts. Students will explore child-centered teaching strategies, phonics, storytelling, songs, classroom management, and interactive teaching tools.

There are no licensing or certification requirements for this qualification at the time of publication.
🔹 Program Pathways
Graduates may:
• Continue to the Young Learners TESOL – Diploma program
• Seek employment as an Assistant ESL Teacher, ESL Tutor for children, or Language Support Assistant in kindergartens, private academies, or language centers.
🔹 Course Duration
20 weeks, including independent study and supervised practicum
Total Nominal Hours: 120 hours

🔹 Language of Delivery
English (with optional Korean or bilingual support sessions for selected groups)
🔹 Entry Requirements
• Completion of Year 11 or above
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• For international students: IELTS 5.5 (Academic) or equivalent
🔹 Mode of Delivery
• Face-to-face classroom instruction (20 hours/week)
• Microteaching and classroom simulations
• Supervised practicum at selected language centers or schools (minimum 40 hours, total 120 hours including planning and observation)

All Certificate IV students receive Teaching English to Children: A Practical Handbook of Classroom Language and Activities (Young Learners TESOL Volume 1), written by Kings College head trainer Dave Ko.
This second edition features classroom English expressions, songs, games, phonics routines, and teacher-friendly templates for ESL instruction with young learners.
🔹 Certification
Upon successful completion of all units, a nationally recognized Certificate IV in TESOL for Young Learners will be issued by Kings College.
